What Is It?
"Christmas And Peace", a theme Card Swap and Contest.
This contest is open to members, as well as invited friends, and members of affiliate groups.
What Is The Theme?
You can select any theme that refers to the upcoming time of year. Your theme can be Christmas, or Winter, or Peace, or about the holidays in general. Anything you want to share with another member is perfectly acceptable.
How Does It Work?
This Is What You'll Do For The Swap Category:
1. First you have to sign up so that we know who is participating. When you sign up PLEASE include which country you live in. We want to match you with someone in the same area as you are (your Swap Mate) as best as we can to save on postage.
2. Create your card.
3. Get in touch with your Swap Mate to exchange addresses. If you feel funny doing this at dA, first give each other an email address and use that method to share home addresses. If there is a problem, please see one of us staff.
4. You and your Swap Mate submit your individual cards to the "Challenge Chamber" for the contest category.
What's the Contest Category?
Each card for the swap is also in the contest.
There will be Prizes, Prizes, Prizes!! We're still negotiating because we want the First Place Prize to be grand, the Second Place Prize be something well earned, and the Third Place Prize be something really nice. And we don't want to forget about those honorable mentions.
Here are the prizes so far:
Set Of Hand Painted Blank Greeting Cards by `thefantasim
A Small Personalized Art Print From `thefantasim
A Small Art Print From Any deviantArt Print Store
Judges will be announced later.
If there is something you would like to donate, please contact us!!
What Are The Card Specifics:
The cards that we are making should be 3" X 5" with a vertical or horizontal orientation.
Your card can be of any media, but the finished card to share must be created on heavy weight ( 65 lb) card stock.
This is a tough and versatile product that is compatible with photocopiers, inkjet and lazer printers. This weight can be used for creating greeting cards, post cards, etc. If you do not have any card stock, the cheapest I've found for a ream of 8 1/2 x 11 is on line at dickblick.com for $3.99
If you create your card by hand, or completely digital, or as a mixed media, and can scan it to be printed on the card stock, great! This is the best way to go.
If you have to create by hand and have no way to scan, create it directly on the card stock, but use some sort of fixative to make sure that the image will stay put. You can find fixative in any hobby or art store.
If you're working digital, but do not have a printer, put your image on a CD, grab a couple of sheets of your card stock, and head on over to the neighborhood print store where they'll print it up for you (for money, of course).
You'll need to include a "Well Wishes" type message to go with your card that includes your signature. This is usually written on a sheet of paper that's thin like stationary paper, but it can be on anything, just make it something nice to go with your beautiful card.
You can send your card in any envelope that it will fit into, but make sure to have some sort of stiff material to support it, like a box that cereal, crackers, cookies, etc. comes in. If you don't have anything that can work, see if your neighbors can help you out. You'll want to have a sheet of supporting board on the front and back of your card.
What Is The Time Limits?
Sign up starts today. Please respond in the comments below or send a note that you want to participate. Since we may have to shake a few trees to drop some deviants and other friends down to participate, we won't stop adding until December 15th.
:snowflakeThe Contest Will End December 31st. So if you're planning on doing an entry with a specific Christmas theme, you have to get it swapped way before the December 25th. Check where you post your mail in your area to see how long it'll take for a card to reach it's destination as it get's closer to Christmas.
Questions? Don't hesitate to ask anytime.
Now, go. Enjoy your swap!
